The room is the expensive part, and it only gets built once

Furniture photography costs what it costs because of the set, not the sofa: a location, a stylist, props, daylight that changes hourly, and a crew rebuilding the room between shots. A CG room is built once and then costs almost nothing to change. The same interior can be shot at three times of day, redressed for a different season, restyled for a different market, and photographed from angles that no real room would physically allow a camera to reach.

Fabric, timber and the things that give a render away

Upholstery is a weave with thread thickness and a directional sheen, not a photograph stretched over a shape — and a flat fabric texture is the single most common tell in furniture CGI. Timber has grain that has to follow the geometry of the part it is cut from, so a leg and a tabletop from the same board do not share a texture. Seams pull, cushions compress where weight sits, and edges have a radius. These are the details a buyer scrolling a catalogue registers without ever consciously noticing them.

Ranges, options and configurators

Furniture is sold as combinations: one frame, twenty fabrics, four timbers, three sizes. That matrix is impossible to photograph and trivial to render, because it is one build with swapped material assignments. The same asset set that produces the catalogue can feed a web configurator, so what the customer builds on the site is the product that was rendered rather than an approximation of it.

Questions

Can you build the room as well as the furniture?

Yes — full CG interiors are a large part of this. The room is built once and then re-lit, redressed and shot from as many angles as the catalogue needs, which is where the cost saving against a location shoot actually comes from.

How do you handle a large upholstery range?

The piece is modelled and lit once, and each fabric is a material swap against the identical setup. A twenty-fabric range is priced nothing like twenty products, and the lighting is consistent across the set by construction.

Can the renders feed a product configurator?

Yes. The same assets can be exported for a real-time web configurator, or rendered out as a complete angle-and-option matrix if you would rather serve pre-rendered images. Which is right depends on how big the matrix is — worth a conversation before the build starts.

Do you work from manufacturing CAD?

Yes, and it is the best start. Manufacturing CAD is dimensionally exact, though it usually needs cleaning for render — machine geometry is not camera geometry. That cleanup is part of the job.

Can you show the same room at different times of day?

Yes, and it is nearly free once the room exists. Morning, afternoon, dusk and lamp-lit are lighting states of one build rather than four separate shoots.
